Djangify has changed a lot in the last few months. Most of the changes are small, and a few of them change what you can do with your shop. This article picks five and explains what each one is, where you find it and how it works.

Key takeaways
  • A coupon that covers a whole order now gives the buyer a genuine free order, with no token charge.
  • Sign-up forms and waitlists are built in, so a Coming Soon product can collect names with no embed code.
  • Guest checkout lets a buyer pay with an email and a first name, and the account is made for them afterwards.
  • The admin editor no longer deletes script or style code when you save.
  • Two new settings tell Google where your shop is and what your refund policy is.

Free orders with a coupon

Giving something away in exchange for a name and an email is a common way to build a list. Until now a fully discounted order still had to pass through Stripe, which has a minimum charge, so a free item could end up costing the buyer a few pence. That has changed. When a coupon covers the whole order, the order total is zero, the buyer is charged nothing, and Stripe's minimum never applies.

The buyer sees a short confirmation page with their name and email and a button that says Get It Free. If you have switched on the email opt-in tick box, or the withdrawal consent box, they appear on that page too, so free orders build your list the same way paid ones do. The order is recorded like any other, and the download appears in their account.

  1. Add the productGive it a normal price, because the coupon is what makes it free.
  2. Create a couponMake it a percentage coupon of 100 and set a validity window or a usage limit if you want one.
  3. Limit it to the productUse the products box on the coupon so the code only works for that one item.
  4. Share the codePut it on a page, in an email or in a video description.
Good to know

A coupon limited to certain products allows one of each item per order. This stops one person using up the whole usage limit with a single checkout.

Built-in sign-up forms and waitlists

Sign-up forms used to need an embed code from your email provider. Now there is a built-in form that asks for a first name, an email address and a tick box for your privacy policy, then passes the person straight to your provider. It works with MailerLite, Kit, Brevo, Mailchimp and AWeber, and each place a form appears can have its own list and tag.

The most visible use is under a Coming Soon product, where the same form becomes a waitlist. You can also add a Waitlist block or a Newsletter block to any page, and the form appears at the end of blog posts, on LinkHub pages, under free tools and on Topic Cluster pages. Double opt-in is requested from your provider. Brevo works a little differently: the shop sends its own confirmation email and adds the person to your list only when they click the link.

Use the built-in form

  • Leave the Waitlist URL box empty
  • The sign-up form shows under the Coming Soon product
  • People join the list without leaving the page

Link to your own page

  • Paste a link in the product's Waitlist URL box
  • The Coming Soon box links there instead of showing the form
  • Good when the page has more to say about the launch

Guest checkout

Many buyers abandon a checkout the moment it asks them to create an account. Guest checkout removes that step. A buyer can pay with just an email address and a first name. After the purchase an account is created for them automatically, and they receive an email with a link to choose their first password. Following the link logs them straight in, so they can come back later and download their purchase again.

The cart also shows a prompt for returning customers to log in, so people who already have an account are not left guessing.

Before

Register, check your email, log in, then pay.

After

Enter an email and a first name, pay, then choose a password from the link in your email.

An editor that keeps your code

Pages that hold a small script or a style block, such as an interactive guide, had a problem. The visual editor in the admin deletes both whenever the form is saved, even when you only change the category. Now, when a rich text field already contains a script or a style, the admin shows a plain text box with a notice in place of the visual editor, so saving cannot rewrite the code. Every other field keeps the normal editor.

Tip

If you see the plain text box on a page, the page contains code the visual editor would remove. Edit the text inside the box and leave the tags as they are.

Watch out

Only pages that already contain a script or a style are protected. A page you are still building in the visual editor behaves as it always did.

Shop country and refund policy

Search engines read structured data on your product pages, including where you sell and what happens if a buyer wants their money back. Two new groups of settings in Site Settings, under Shop location and refunds, now feed that data directly.

  • Shop country is where your shop is based. Leave it on the first option and Djangify works it out from your currency.
  • Refund policy is either no refunds on digital downloads, or refunds within a set number of days.
  • Refund window is the number of days, from 1 to 365, and is used only when the policy is a set number of days.
Keep them matching

The refund policy in Site Settings must match the one you publish on your Refund Policy page. Change both together.
